HCM offers Diabetes Education recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Individual Diabetes Care Consultations are recommended and covered by most all insurances. Group Seminars are provided at a reasonable cost and are not covered by insurance.

HCM offers Diabetes Education recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Individual Diabetes Care Appointments and Individual Diabetes Medical Nutrition Therapy Appointments are recommended for all Diabetes Clients and are covered by most insurance plans. Individual Sessions may cover topics such as:

1. Creating an individual dietary plan
2. Carbohydrate Counting education
3. Menu planning
4. Planning for eating out
5. Blood glucose meter training
6. Lifestyle Strategies for better blood sugar management
7. Appropriate Goal Setting.

Group seminars are offered periodically throughout the year at the Wellness Center focusing on various Diabetes care topics. These seminars are $45.00 for each seminar or 15% off if you register and pay for all 3 at one time. They are not covered by insurance. Payment options include Master Card, Visa, Check or Cash.

Robust Living with Diabetes Series

DIETARY MANAGEMENT TOOLS FOR GOOD DIABETES CONTROL

This seminar is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to help control blood sugars by dietary modification.  Food choice management and food portion management will be taught.  Label reading skills will be addressed. Eating management tools such as carbohydrate counting, portion size estimating, and meal balancing will be taught.  The role of the glycemic index as a tool to help control blood sugars will be discussed.  Meal planning skills will be taught. Attendees will be provided several resources, including sample menus, as a part of the tuition fee.  Other helpful resources may be made available for purchase at the class.

SHOPPING AND COOKING MEALS FOR GOOD DIABETES CONTROL

This seminar is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to cook for someone who has diabetes. Participants will learn what foods are best to purchase and what to avoid. Attendees will learn cooking techniques that work best when preparing food for a person with diabetes as well as how to season food effectively without adding excessive sugar or fat. A small recipe booklet will be provided. This seminar will not require participants to cook in the class.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND MOVEMENT STRATEGIES FOR GOOD DIABETES CONTROL

This seminar provides information about the powerfully positive effects of physical activity in lowering blood sugars and in general health and wellbeing. Ideas and suggestions for exercise will be discussed. Come prepared to do low level physical activity as a part of the class. Participants will be able to develop a personal exercise plan that is appropriate for them.

Individual Medical Nutrition Therapy Appointments for the dietary management is recommended. This may or may not be covered by insurance.
